Rectangular roof lanterns in Lancashire

Choosing rectangular roof lanterns in Lancashire

The classic double-hipped lantern: a ridge, four sloping sides and the most size choice.

Across Lancashire, the shortest day brings around 7h 25m of daylight and the midsummer sun reaches about 59.7° at noon. A lantern collects light from the bright overhead sky all year, and the right glass keeps the long summer days comfortable.

• Ridge along the long axis, four glazed slopes
• Intermediate rafters added on longer lengths
• The most size options of any lantern shape
• Stock anthracite, black or white, or any RAL

Planning and building regulations in Lancashire

For homes in England, a new or replacement rooflight should achieve a U-value of 2.2 W/m²K or better in the horizontal position, under Approved Document L.

On a permitted development extension the lantern counts towards the extension's height; on an existing roof, a rooflight projecting more than 150 mm may need planning permission.

Building regulations are checked by your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work. Installers registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify; otherwise building control must be involved.
