Roof lantern questions

Buying

How do I buy a roof lantern from you?

Use the configurator or send us your kerb size. We reply with a written quote showing the fixed price, the range, the glass and colours, the lead time and how delivery works. When you accept the quote and pay as set out on it, we place the order and confirm your delivery date.

Can I order online and pay by card on the website?

Not yet. Every lantern is checked against your measurements before it is ordered, so orders are placed from a written quote. The quote explains how and when to pay.

Are your prices fixed?

The prices on this site are guides. The price on your written quote is fixed for the size, glass, colours, extras and delivery shown on it.

Do your prices include VAT?

Our guide prices are shown including VAT at 20%, with the figure excluding VAT alongside where useful. Your quote shows both.

Do you sell to builders and trade customers?

Yes. Builders, roofers and extension companies can buy from us for their own projects. Send your project details and we will quote.

Can I see a sample of the frame colour?

Ask when you request your quote. We will tell you what samples are available for your chosen range.

Sizes and measuring

What size should I order?

The external size of the kerb or upstand the lantern will sit on, width first then length, in millimetres. Our measuring guide shows how to check it.

What if my kerb is not a standard size?

We can quote a made-to-measure lantern to your exact size, or you can adjust the kerb to suit a standard size, which is usually quicker and cheaper.

What is the biggest lantern you can supply?

It depends on the range. Many go to around 4 m long, some further with intermediate rafters. Send your size and we will confirm.

Can I change my order after it is placed?

Stock-size orders can sometimes be changed before dispatch. Made-to-measure lanterns go into manufacture once ordered and cannot be changed or cancelled after that point.

Delivery

Where do you deliver?

Across mainland Britain, with delivery quoted for your postcode. The Scottish Highlands, islands and Northern Ireland are by arrangement.

How long does delivery take?

Typical lead times are 5–10 working days for stock sizes and 3–4 weeks for made-to-measure. Your quote confirms the date.

Do you deliver to the roof?

No. Delivery is usually to the kerbside or driveway on pallets. Your installer lifts the lantern onto the roof.

How heavy is a roof lantern?

Roughly 65 kg for a small lantern to several hundred kilograms for large triple glazed ones. The configurator shows an approximate weight, and the manufacturer's figure is on your quote.

What if something arrives damaged?

Note it on the delivery paperwork if you can, photograph it and tell us the same day. Goods are our responsibility until they are delivered to you.

Fitting

Do you fit roof lanterns?

We can quote for fitting by installers working under S&K Property Investments and Improvement Ltd, which remains responsible for the work. Send your postcode and we will confirm cover.

Can my own builder fit it?

Yes. Supply only is designed for exactly that: your own builder or roofer fits it. The lantern comes with the manufacturer's fitting instructions.

Do I need building regulations approval?

A new lantern in a new extension is covered by the extension's approval. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work and must meet energy standards. Rules differ by nation; our building regulations guide explains them.

Do I need planning permission?

Often not, but it depends on where the lantern goes and where you live. Listed buildings and conservation areas usually need consent. See our planning guide and check with your council.

Cancellations and returns

Can I cancel my order?

For standard stock-size lanterns bought at a distance, you normally have 14 days from delivery to cancel. Made-to-measure lanterns are made to your specification, so the cancellation right does not apply once they are ordered. Our terms explain the details.

What if the lantern is faulty?

Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 apply. Tell us as soon as you notice the problem, with photos, and we will put it right.

Is there a warranty?

Each lantern comes with its manufacturer's warranty. The terms for your chosen range are stated on your quote.
