Planning and building regulations for Skelmersdale
For homes in England, a new or replacement rooflight should achieve a U-value of 2.2 W/m²K or better in the horizontal position, under Approved Document L.
Planning-wise, a lantern on a new extension is judged as part of that extension, while one added to an existing roof can fall outside permitted development if it stands more than 150 mm proud.
Building regulations in Skelmersdale are checked by your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work. Installers registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify; otherwise building control must be involved.

Questions from Skelmersdale
Can I have cresting without finials, or the other way round?
Usually yes. Ranges treat cresting and finials as options. Tell us what you want and the quote will list each item.
Do you make timber traditional lanterns?
Our range is aluminium and uPVC. Aluminium can be powder-coated in heritage colours that suit timber windows and doors.
Is it worth having solar-control glass in Skelmersdale?
With the midsummer sun about 59.9° high at noon, roof glass in Skelmersdale gets strong summer sun. Solar control is recommended for large or south-facing lanterns.
Who checks building regulations for a lantern in Skelmersdale?
Your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. For a lantern in a new extension it forms part of the extension's approval; replacements in existing homes have their own rules.
