Traditional roof lanterns for Kidderminster homes
Victorian-style detailing with ridge cresting and finials for period homes.
In midsummer the noon sun stands about 61.1° high over Kidderminster, so roof glazing gets the full strength of it. That is why solar-control glass is worth considering on larger lanterns here.
- Decorative ridge cresting and finials
- Suits orangeries and older houses
- Modern thermally broken aluminium frame

Planning and building regulations for Kidderminster
England's Approved Document L caps the U-value of new or replacement rooflights in existing homes at 2.2 W/m²K, calculated with the glass horizontal.
Planning-wise, a lantern on a new extension is judged as part of that extension, while one added to an existing roof can fall outside permitted development if it stands more than 150 mm proud.
Building regulations in Kidderminster are checked by your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work. Installers registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify; otherwise building control must be involved.

Questions from Kidderminster
Can I have cresting without finials, or the other way round?
Usually yes. Ranges treat cresting and finials as options. Tell us what you want and the quote will list each item.
Is a traditional lantern harder to clean?
There are more bars, so there are more edges for dirt to collect along. Self-cleaning glass helps, but a gentle rinse once or twice a year is still worthwhile.
Do I need planning permission for a roof lantern in Kidderminster?
Often not, but it depends on the roof, the property and whether it is listed or in a conservation area. Check with your district, borough or unitary council before ordering.
How quickly can I get a roof lantern in Kidderminster?
Stock sizes are typically ready in 5–10 working days, made-to-measure in 3–4 weeks, plus delivery. Your quote gives the date for DY10.
