Planning and building regulations for Farnworth
In England, building regulations energy guidance sets a limiting U-value of 2.2 W/m²K for new and replacement rooflights in existing homes, measured horizontally.
On a permitted development extension the lantern counts towards the extension's height; on an existing roof, a rooflight projecting more than 150 mm may need planning permission.
Building regulations in Farnworth are checked by your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work. Installers registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify; otherwise building control must be involved.

Questions from Farnworth
Is a traditional lantern harder to clean?
There are more bars, so there are more edges for dirt to collect along. Self-cleaning glass helps, but a gentle rinse once or twice a year is still worthwhile.
Do you make timber traditional lanterns?
Our range is aluminium and uPVC. Aluminium can be powder-coated in heritage colours that suit timber windows and doors.
Do I need planning permission for a roof lantern in Farnworth?
Often not, but it depends on the roof, the property and whether it is listed or in a conservation area. Check with your district, borough or unitary council before ordering.
Can you fit a roof lantern in Farnworth?
We can quote for fitting where we have cover. Send your postcode and photos of the roof and kerb, and we will confirm before quoting.
