Planning and building regulations for Mitcham
England's Approved Document L caps the U-value of new or replacement rooflights in existing homes at 2.2 W/m²K, calculated with the glass horizontal.
Lanterns on permitted development extensions are part of the extension's height limits. Adding one to an existing roof is different: over 150 mm of projection can mean a planning application.
Building regulations in Mitcham are checked by your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work. Installers registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify; otherwise building control must be involved.

Questions from Mitcham
What if the lantern arrives damaged?
Check the packaging and glass on delivery where you can, note any damage on the delivery paperwork and tell us straight away with photos. Goods remain our responsibility until they are delivered to you.
Do you deliver to building sites?
Yes, to mainland Britain addresses, with Northern Ireland, the Highlands and islands by arrangement. Tell us about access, parking restrictions and whether a forklift or tail lift will be needed.
Do I need planning permission for a roof lantern in Mitcham?
Often not, but it depends on the roof, the property and whether it is listed or in a conservation area. Check with your district, borough or unitary council before ordering.
Can you fit a roof lantern in Mitcham?
We can quote for fitting where we have cover. Send your postcode and photos of the roof and kerb, and we will confirm before quoting.
