Planning and building regulations for Bedworth
For homes in England, a new or replacement rooflight should achieve a U-value of 2.2 W/m²K or better in the horizontal position, under Approved Document L.
Planning-wise, a lantern on a new extension is judged as part of that extension, while one added to an existing roof can fall outside permitted development if it stands more than 150 mm proud.
Building regulations in Bedworth are checked by your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work. Installers registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify; otherwise building control must be involved.

Questions from Bedworth
Is a pyramid lantern more expensive than a rectangular one?
Per square metre it can cost slightly more, because every pane is a triangle and the apex needs a special joint. The difference is usually small next to the effect of size and glass choice.
Will a square lantern leak at the top?
It should not when it is correctly installed and maintained. The apex is factory-designed to shed water; leaks usually come from the upstand or roof membrane rather than the lantern itself, which is why the upstand detail matters.
Is it worth having solar-control glass in Bedworth?
With the midsummer sun about 61.0° high at noon, roof glass in Bedworth gets strong summer sun. Solar control is recommended for large or south-facing lanterns.
Do I need planning permission for a roof lantern in Bedworth?
Often not, but it depends on the roof, the property and whether it is listed or in a conservation area. Check with your district, borough or unitary council before ordering.
