Planning and building regulations for Godalming
England's Approved Document L caps the U-value of new or replacement rooflights in existing homes at 2.2 W/m²K, calculated with the glass horizontal.
Lanterns on permitted development extensions are part of the extension's height limits. Adding one to an existing roof is different: over 150 mm of projection can mean a planning application.
Building regulations in Godalming are checked by your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work. Installers registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify; otherwise building control must be involved.

Questions from Godalming
Is a pyramid lantern more expensive than a rectangular one?
Per square metre it can cost slightly more, because every pane is a triangle and the apex needs a special joint. The difference is usually small next to the effect of size and glass choice.
Can I have an opening vent in a pyramid lantern?
Some ranges can fit a vent in one of the triangular panes, others cannot. We will tell you on the quote whether your chosen range allows it.
Who checks building regulations for a lantern in Godalming?
Your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. For a lantern in a new extension it forms part of the extension's approval; replacements in existing homes have their own rules.
Do you deliver roof lanterns to Godalming?
Yes. Delivery to Godalming (GU7) is quoted for your exact postcode and confirmed in writing on your quote, together with the lead time.
