Square roof lanterns for Caterham homes
Four triangular panes meeting at a point: a pyramid lantern for square openings.
On the shortest day Caterham gets about 7h 52m of daylight, with the sun only 15.3° above the horizon at noon. Light from the sky overhead is the brightest available in winter, which is exactly what a roof lantern collects.
- Four triangular panes to a single apex
- No ridge, a neat apex cap instead
- Ideal over a table, island or hallway

Planning and building regulations for Caterham
For homes in England, a new or replacement rooflight should achieve a U-value of 2.2 W/m²K or better in the horizontal position, under Approved Document L.
Lanterns on permitted development extensions are part of the extension's height limits. Adding one to an existing roof is different: over 150 mm of projection can mean a planning application.
Building regulations in Caterham are checked by your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work. Installers registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify; otherwise building control must be involved.

Questions from Caterham
Can I have an opening vent in a pyramid lantern?
Some ranges can fit a vent in one of the triangular panes, others cannot. We will tell you on the quote whether your chosen range allows it.
What is the largest square lantern?
Ranges differ. Many go to around 3 m square, with extra hip bars on larger sizes. Tell us your kerb size and we will confirm which ranges can make it.
Who checks building regulations for a lantern in Caterham?
Your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. For a lantern in a new extension it forms part of the extension's approval; replacements in existing homes have their own rules.
Do you deliver roof lanterns to Caterham?
Yes. Delivery to Caterham (CR3) is quoted for your exact postcode and confirmed in writing on your quote, together with the lead time.
