Planning and building regulations for Leyland
In England, building regulations energy guidance sets a limiting U-value of 2.2 W/m²K for new and replacement rooflights in existing homes, measured horizontally.
Planning-wise, a lantern on a new extension is judged as part of that extension, while one added to an existing roof can fall outside permitted development if it stands more than 150 mm proud.
Building regulations in Leyland are checked by your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work. Installers registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify; otherwise building control must be involved.

Questions from Leyland
What is the largest square lantern?
Ranges differ. Many go to around 3 m square, with extra hip bars on larger sizes. Tell us your kerb size and we will confirm which ranges can make it.
Will a square lantern leak at the top?
It should not when it is correctly installed and maintained. The apex is factory-designed to shed water; leaks usually come from the upstand or roof membrane rather than the lantern itself, which is why the upstand detail matters.
Who checks building regulations for a lantern in Leyland?
Your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. For a lantern in a new extension it forms part of the extension's approval; replacements in existing homes have their own rules.
Do you deliver roof lanterns to Leyland?
Yes. Delivery to Leyland (PR25) is quoted for your exact postcode and confirmed in writing on your quote, together with the lead time.
