Square roof lanterns for Folkestone homes
Four triangular panes meeting at a point: a pyramid lantern for square openings.
On the shortest day Folkestone gets about 7h 54m of daylight, with the sun only 15.5° above the horizon at noon. Light from the sky overhead is the brightest available in winter, which is exactly what a roof lantern collects.
- Four triangular panes to a single apex
- Strong central focal point from below
- No ridge, a neat apex cap instead

Planning and building regulations for Folkestone
For homes in England, a new or replacement rooflight should achieve a U-value of 2.2 W/m²K or better in the horizontal position, under Approved Document L.
On a permitted development extension the lantern counts towards the extension's height; on an existing roof, a rooflight projecting more than 150 mm may need planning permission.
Building regulations in Folkestone are checked by your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work. Installers registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify; otherwise building control must be involved.

Questions from Folkestone
Will a square lantern leak at the top?
It should not when it is correctly installed and maintained. The apex is factory-designed to shed water; leaks usually come from the upstand or roof membrane rather than the lantern itself, which is why the upstand detail matters.
Can I have an opening vent in a pyramid lantern?
Some ranges can fit a vent in one of the triangular panes, others cannot. We will tell you on the quote whether your chosen range allows it.
Do you deliver roof lanterns to Folkestone?
Yes. Delivery to Folkestone (CT19) is quoted for your exact postcode and confirmed in writing on your quote, together with the lead time.
Who checks building regulations for a lantern in Folkestone?
Your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. For a lantern in a new extension it forms part of the extension's approval; replacements in existing homes have their own rules.
