Planning and building regulations for Bury St Edmunds
England's Approved Document L caps the U-value of new or replacement rooflights in existing homes at 2.2 W/m²K, calculated with the glass horizontal.
Lanterns on permitted development extensions are part of the extension's height limits. Adding one to an existing roof is different: over 150 mm of projection can mean a planning application.
Building regulations in Bury St Edmunds are checked by your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work. Installers registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify; otherwise building control must be involved.

Questions from Bury St Edmunds
Will solar-control glass make the room dark?
It lets slightly less light through than clear glass, but a roof lantern admits so much daylight that most people do not notice the difference.
Can blinds do the same job?
Internal blinds reduce glare but the heat is already inside the room. Glass that stops the heat at the roof is more effective.
Who checks building regulations for a lantern in Bury St Edmunds?
Your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. For a lantern in a new extension it forms part of the extension's approval; replacements in existing homes have their own rules.
How quickly can I get a roof lantern in Bury St Edmunds?
Stock sizes are typically ready in 5–10 working days, made-to-measure in 3–4 weeks, plus delivery. Your quote gives the date for IP33.
