Planning and building regulations for Huyton
For homes in England, a new or replacement rooflight should achieve a U-value of 2.2 W/m²K or better in the horizontal position, under Approved Document L.
Lanterns on permitted development extensions are part of the extension's height limits. Adding one to an existing roof is different: over 150 mm of projection can mean a planning application.
Building regulations in Huyton are checked by your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work. Installers registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify; otherwise building control must be involved.

Questions from Huyton
Do I still need to clean self-cleaning glass?
Occasionally. It keeps the glass cleaner for longer, but heavy dirt and droppings still need a gentle rinse, especially in dry spells.
Is self-cleaning glass the same as solar-control glass?
No. Self-cleaning is a coating that sheds dirt; solar control reduces heat gain. Many lantern units combine both.
Can you fit a roof lantern in Huyton?
We can quote for fitting where we have cover. Send your postcode and photos of the roof and kerb, and we will confirm before quoting.
Is it worth having solar-control glass in Huyton?
With the midsummer sun about 60.0° high at noon, roof glass in Huyton gets strong summer sun. Solar control is recommended for large or south-facing lanterns.
