Self-cleaning glass roof lanterns for Accrington homes
A coated outer pane that breaks down dirt in daylight and lets rain wash it away.
On the shortest day Accrington gets about 7h 25m of daylight, with the sun only 12.8° above the horizon at noon. Light from the sky overhead is the brightest available in winter, which is exactly what a roof lantern collects.

- Clear, blue or neutral tints
- Simple care: rinse with clean water

Planning and building regulations for Accrington
In England, building regulations energy guidance sets a limiting U-value of 2.2 W/m²K for new and replacement rooflights in existing homes, measured horizontally.
Planning-wise, a lantern on a new extension is judged as part of that extension, while one added to an existing roof can fall outside permitted development if it stands more than 150 mm proud.
Building regulations in Accrington are checked by your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work. Installers registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify; otherwise building control must be involved.

Questions from Accrington
Does it work under trees?
Less well. Sap and leaf debris build up faster than daylight and rain can deal with them, so lanterns under trees need more regular rinsing.
Can the coating be damaged?
Yes, by abrasive cleaning, some chemicals and silicone. Follow the care instructions supplied with your lantern.
Can you fit a roof lantern in Accrington?
We can quote for fitting where we have cover. Send your postcode and photos of the roof and kerb, and we will confirm before quoting.
Do you deliver roof lanterns to Accrington?
Yes. Delivery to Accrington (BB5) is quoted for your exact postcode and confirmed in writing on your quote, together with the lead time.
