Replacement roof lanterns for Daventry homes
Swap a tired, leaking or polycarbonate lantern for modern double glazing.
In midsummer the noon sun stands about 61.2° high over Daventry, so roof glazing gets the full strength of it. That is why solar-control glass is worth considering on larger lanterns here.
- Replace old polycarbonate with glass
- Supply only or a fitting quote
- Reuse the kerb if sound and to size

Planning and building regulations for Daventry
England's Approved Document L caps the U-value of new or replacement rooflights in existing homes at 2.2 W/m²K, calculated with the glass horizontal.
Planning-wise, a lantern on a new extension is judged as part of that extension, while one added to an existing roof can fall outside permitted development if it stands more than 150 mm proud.
Building regulations in Daventry are checked by your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work. Installers registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify; otherwise building control must be involved.

Questions from Daventry
Will a new lantern be warmer?
A modern double glazed lantern with a thermally broken frame loses far less heat than polycarbonate.
How long does replacement take on site?
For a like-for-like swap on a sound kerb, often a day. Kerb or roof repairs add time.
Can you fit a roof lantern in Daventry?
We can quote for fitting where we have cover. Send your postcode and photos of the roof and kerb, and we will confirm before quoting.
Do I need planning permission for a roof lantern in Daventry?
Often not, but it depends on the roof, the property and whether it is listed or in a conservation area. Check with your district, borough or unitary council before ordering.
