Rectangular roof lanterns for Morpeth homes
The classic double-hipped lantern: a ridge, four sloping sides and the most size choice.
In midsummer the noon sun stands about 58.3° high over Morpeth, so roof glazing gets the full strength of it. That is why solar-control glass is worth considering on larger lanterns here.
- Ridge along the long axis, four glazed slopes
- Standard sizes or made to your kerb
- Stock anthracite, black or white, or any RAL

Planning and building regulations for Morpeth
In England, building regulations energy guidance sets a limiting U-value of 2.2 W/m²K for new and replacement rooflights in existing homes, measured horizontally.
Planning-wise, a lantern on a new extension is judged as part of that extension, while one added to an existing roof can fall outside permitted development if it stands more than 150 mm proud.
Building regulations in Morpeth are checked by your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work. Installers registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify; otherwise building control must be involved.

Questions from Morpeth
Can a rectangular lantern be made to an exact size?
Yes. Made-to-measure lanterns are built to the external kerb size you give us, usually in 10 mm steps within the range's limits. Made-to-measure takes longer than a stock size and cannot be cancelled once ordered, so measure twice.
Which way should the ridge run?
The ridge runs along the longer side. On a square opening there is no ridge and the lantern becomes a pyramid.
Do I need planning permission for a roof lantern in Morpeth?
Often not, but it depends on the roof, the property and whether it is listed or in a conservation area. Check with your district, borough or unitary council before ordering.
How quickly can I get a roof lantern in Morpeth?
Stock sizes are typically ready in 5–10 working days, made-to-measure in 3–4 weeks, plus delivery. Your quote gives the date for NE61.
