Planning and building regulations for Launceston
England's Approved Document L caps the U-value of new or replacement rooflights in existing homes at 2.2 W/m²K, calculated with the glass horizontal.
On a permitted development extension the lantern counts towards the extension's height; on an existing roof, a rooflight projecting more than 150 mm may need planning permission.
Building regulations in Launceston are checked by your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work. Installers registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify; otherwise building control must be involved.

Questions from Launceston
Can a rectangular lantern be made to an exact size?
Yes. Made-to-measure lanterns are built to the external kerb size you give us, usually in 10 mm steps within the range's limits. Made-to-measure takes longer than a stock size and cannot be cancelled once ordered, so measure twice.
Which way should the ridge run?
The ridge runs along the longer side. On a square opening there is no ridge and the lantern becomes a pyramid.
Do you deliver roof lanterns to Launceston?
Yes. Delivery to Launceston (PL15) is quoted for your exact postcode and confirmed in writing on your quote, together with the lead time.
Can you fit a roof lantern in Launceston?
We can quote for fitting where we have cover. Send your postcode and photos of the roof and kerb, and we will confirm before quoting.
