Planning and building regulations for Windsor
For homes in England, a new or replacement rooflight should achieve a U-value of 2.2 W/m²K or better in the horizontal position, under Approved Document L.
On a permitted development extension the lantern counts towards the extension's height; on an existing roof, a rooflight projecting more than 150 mm may need planning permission.
Building regulations in Windsor are checked by your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work. Installers registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify; otherwise building control must be involved.

Questions from Windsor
What is the most common rectangular roof lantern size?
Sizes of 1000 × 2000 mm and 1500 × 2500 mm are common standard sizes for kitchen and dining extensions, but the right size is the one that matches your kerb. If your kerb is not built yet, our sizes guide helps you pick a standard size first.
Does a longer lantern need extra support?
Long lanterns use intermediate rafters inside the lantern itself. The roof structure around the opening must be designed to carry the lantern's weight; your builder or engineer sizes the trimmers.
Do you deliver roof lanterns to Windsor?
Yes. Delivery to Windsor (SL4) is quoted for your exact postcode and confirmed in writing on your quote, together with the lead time.
Can you fit a roof lantern in Windsor?
We can quote for fitting where we have cover. Send your postcode and photos of the roof and kerb, and we will confirm before quoting.
