Planning and building regulations for Swadlincote
For homes in England, a new or replacement rooflight should achieve a U-value of 2.2 W/m²K or better in the horizontal position, under Approved Document L.
Planning-wise, a lantern on a new extension is judged as part of that extension, while one added to an existing roof can fall outside permitted development if it stands more than 150 mm proud.
Building regulations in Swadlincote are checked by your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work. Installers registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify; otherwise building control must be involved.

Questions from Swadlincote
How is a large lantern delivered?
On pallets, usually with the frame and glass packed separately. The heaviest single item is normally a glass unit, which needs two or more people to lift safely.
Does a large lantern need structural calculations?
The roof structure around it usually does. Your engineer or building control body will want the lantern's weight and the opening size.
Is it worth having solar-control glass in Swadlincote?
With the midsummer sun about 60.7° high at noon, roof glass in Swadlincote gets strong summer sun. Solar control is recommended for large or south-facing lanterns.
Who checks building regulations for a lantern in Swadlincote?
Your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. For a lantern in a new extension it forms part of the extension's approval; replacements in existing homes have their own rules.
