Planning and building regulations for Aberystwyth
In Wales, the Welsh Government's own Approved Document L applies, with limiting values that are not the same as England's.
Check the Welsh permitted development rules with your council before ordering, particularly in conservation areas.
Building regulations in Aberystwyth are checked by your local authority building control team. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work in Wales too. A competent person scheme installer can self-certify; otherwise building control should be notified.

Questions from Aberystwyth
Are contemporary lanterns weaker?
They are engineered for the sizes they are sold in. That is exactly why their maximum sizes are often smaller: the frame is slimmer, so each range has its own limits.
Do contemporary lanterns cost more?
Usually a little more per size than a standard range, because the bigger glass units cost more to make and handle.
Do I need planning permission for a roof lantern in Aberystwyth?
Often not, but it depends on the roof, the property and whether it is listed or in a conservation area. Check with your county or county borough council before ordering.
Can you fit a roof lantern in Aberystwyth?
We can quote for fitting where we have cover. Send your postcode and photos of the roof and kerb, and we will confirm before quoting.
