Planning and building regulations in Dumfries and Galloway
Scottish building standards, including Section 6 on energy, apply here, and a building warrant is normally needed for extensions and structural alterations.
Your council will confirm whether your lantern is permitted development under Scotland's rules, particularly for listed buildings.
Building regulations are checked by your local authority building standards (verifier) service. Some like-for-like replacement work does not need a building warrant but must still meet the building standards. Your council's building standards service can confirm.

Contemporary roof lanterns in Dumfries and Galloway: questions
Are contemporary lanterns weaker?
They are engineered for the sizes they are sold in. That is exactly why their maximum sizes are often smaller: the frame is slimmer, so each range has its own limits.
Do contemporary lanterns cost more?
Usually a little more per size than a standard range, because the bigger glass units cost more to make and handle.
Can I have a contemporary lantern in white?
Yes, though most buyers choose grey or black because the slimmer frame is the point and dark frames disappear against the sky.
How quickly can I get a roof lantern in Dumfries and Galloway?
Stock sizes are typically ready in 5–10 working days, made-to-measure in 3–4 weeks, plus delivery. Your quote gives the date for Dumfries and Galloway.
