Slim frames, fewer bars and a lower profile for a cleaner view of the sky.
On the shortest day Ilkeston gets about 7h 34m of daylight, with the sun only 13.6° above the horizon at noon. Light from the sky overhead is the brightest available in winter, which is exactly what a roof lantern collects.

Planning and building regulations for Ilkeston
In England, building regulations energy guidance sets a limiting U-value of 2.2 W/m²K for new and replacement rooflights in existing homes, measured horizontally.
On a permitted development extension the lantern counts towards the extension's height; on an existing roof, a rooflight projecting more than 150 mm may need planning permission.
Building regulations in Ilkeston are checked by your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work. Installers registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify; otherwise building control must be involved.

Questions from Ilkeston
Do contemporary lanterns cost more?
Usually a little more per size than a standard range, because the bigger glass units cost more to make and handle.
Can I have a contemporary lantern in white?
Yes, though most buyers choose grey or black because the slimmer frame is the point and dark frames disappear against the sky.
Can you fit a roof lantern in Ilkeston?
We can quote for fitting where we have cover. Send your postcode and photos of the roof and kerb, and we will confirm before quoting.
How quickly can I get a roof lantern in Ilkeston?
Stock sizes are typically ready in 5–10 working days, made-to-measure in 3–4 weeks, plus delivery. Your quote gives the date for DE7.
