Planning and building regulations for Redditch
In England, building regulations energy guidance sets a limiting U-value of 2.2 W/m²K for new and replacement rooflights in existing homes, measured horizontally.
Lanterns on permitted development extensions are part of the extension's height limits. Adding one to an existing roof is different: over 150 mm of projection can mean a planning application.
Building regulations in Redditch are checked by your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work. Installers registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify; otherwise building control must be involved.

Questions from Redditch
How accurate do my measurements need to be?
Accurate to the millimetre on the outside of the kerb, measured at several points. Kerbs are rarely perfectly square, so measure both diagonals too. Our measuring guide shows how.
Do bespoke lanterns cost much more?
For simple rectangles the premium over a stock size is usually modest. Special shapes cost more because each one is engineered individually.
Do you deliver roof lanterns to Redditch?
Yes. Delivery to Redditch (B97) is quoted for your exact postcode and confirmed in writing on your quote, together with the lead time.
Can you fit a roof lantern in Redditch?
We can quote for fitting where we have cover. Send your postcode and photos of the roof and kerb, and we will confirm before quoting.
