Planning and building regulations for Taunton
In England, building regulations energy guidance sets a limiting U-value of 2.2 W/m²K for new and replacement rooflights in existing homes, measured horizontally.
On a permitted development extension the lantern counts towards the extension's height; on an existing roof, a rooflight projecting more than 150 mm may need planning permission.
Building regulations in Taunton are checked by your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work. Installers registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify; otherwise building control must be involved.

Questions from Taunton
Will the colour fade?
Polyester powder coatings are designed for outdoor use and hold their colour well. Coastal sites benefit from occasional washing to remove salt deposits.
Is aluminium recyclable?
Yes, aluminium can be recycled repeatedly. Ask your local waste site about the glass and seals, which are handled separately.
Who checks building regulations for a lantern in Taunton?
Your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. For a lantern in a new extension it forms part of the extension's approval; replacements in existing homes have their own rules.
Do I need planning permission for a roof lantern in Taunton?
Often not, but it depends on the roof, the property and whether it is listed or in a conservation area. Check with your district, borough or unitary council before ordering.
