Planning and building regulations for Redruth
In England, building regulations energy guidance sets a limiting U-value of 2.2 W/m²K for new and replacement rooflights in existing homes, measured horizontally.
Lanterns on permitted development extensions are part of the extension's height limits. Adding one to an existing roof is different: over 150 mm of projection can mean a planning application.
Building regulations in Redruth are checked by your local authority building control team or a registered building control approver. Replacing a rooflight in an existing home is building work. Installers registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify; otherwise building control must be involved.

Questions from Redruth
Do aluminium lanterns get cold and drip?
Thermally broken frames are designed to reduce cold bridging. Condensation can still form if a room is very humid and poorly ventilated, which is why kitchens and bathrooms need extract ventilation.
Is aluminium recyclable?
Yes, aluminium can be recycled repeatedly. Ask your local waste site about the glass and seals, which are handled separately.
How quickly can I get a roof lantern in Redruth?
Stock sizes are typically ready in 5–10 working days, made-to-measure in 3–4 weeks, plus delivery. Your quote gives the date for TR15.
Do I need planning permission for a roof lantern in Redruth?
Often not, but it depends on the roof, the property and whether it is listed or in a conservation area. Check with your district, borough or unitary council before ordering.
